When flipping through a magazine, you will notice a difference about some of the pages. They aren’t ads because they have more than just a picture, but they also can’t claim to be unbiased content. This is ‘advertorial’, an article with very heavy product placement and strong recommendations about using a certain product. Consumers aren’t really fooled but that doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate the extra information.

Anyone can create an advertorial by getting creative with the way they share their message. You can be informative or tongue-in-cheek with your advertisements. You could work with a TV station, radio station, newspaper or magazine to develop an advertorial strategy. Just make sure you follow the laws regarding advertorials in your country – in many cases a label is required to separate advertorial from editorial.
